it doesnt have much color, from some of the pix ive seen of pests, it seems like they generally dont have much color (although the guy i got this LR from said he had the lights off for about a month, so if its not a pest, maybe its bleached like the mushrooms that came on the rock too??).... iono
i kind of like it, so i hope its not a pest. theres just the one that i have found. it doesnt have a tube like stock like aptaisia does, it lays pretty flat on the rock. if it is a pest, why is it a pest? quick spreading or stinging or both? also, how do i get rid of it? would boiling ro water or lemon juice work better and if so, how much of a 5ml syringe of lemon juice would i need? (75 gal, nothing within a 5" radius, if that helps)
thanks!

Looks like a majano anemone...PEST....some people inject them with lemon juice or boiling water and it works....never did for me on any of my pests...Joes Juice works great, or you can buy that pickling lime powder and make your own

u can do a touch test! Touch it and if it suks all the way back into the rock than its a pest anenome....if it just falls back into a POLYP than its a paly! Most likely a pest though!

It did retract :-/ hmm speaking of retracting, I have this other brown feathery thingy on one of my rocks. When you come close to it or move quickly, it shoots back into the rock hole really quick. It looks like a feather duster without the tube... Friend or foe?
....on a lighter note.... I got my first 2 fish on saturday ) theyre healthy & happy and still no ammonia spike. (never had one yet with this tank, I even took my water down to be tested cause I was doubting my tests!)
I was only going to get a firefish cause I wanted to go super slow with my stocking... Then... The hubby says, "um, bebe?", "yes sean?", "can I have a fish too?"... This of course came from the guy who said "dont ask me to get involved with your tank, if you want it dont ask me to help" .... And then the rock gets set up & he spends half the day fogging up the glass with his hot breath lol :rotfl: so we added a false perc.
I read that sometimes the firefish are scared and sometimes clownfish are too active for them, but he doesnt seem to mind the clown :)

We're glad the HH ID guide is helping folks out.
Kilofey,
You'd better not show your hubby any of these fish, or you'll end up with several tanks:
http://www.lionfishlair.com/gregandreneegallery/galleryfront.shtml
Each pic is "clickable" and opens up additional photos.
Unfortunately, the site has taken a backseat to our house remodel, but we'll be updating it soon (we just finished a lionfish article that Renee has to "pretty-up" and code).

We have a black scorp??? Maybe the Inimicus japonicus?
As for the yellow-spotted...they're very reclusive, as they make their homes in the branches of live SPS coral colonies and skeletons. Cool little fish...not easy to find tho.

First off, awesome site saxman! It must be cool to have a site with enough hits that it comes up on google lol :)
Second, those fish are way too neat, can any of them go with my proposed stock list?
Firefish
False perc
Orchid dottyback
Green banded goby
Royal gramma
Fire shromp
Cleaner shrimp
Tail spot blenny
Snails
Hermits (5 itty bitty ones, If they hurt my corals, they leave)
Soft corals
Are any compatible with my stock list? I wouldnt mind having any one of those theyre super neat

Aiptasia (horrible pest) will do exactly this if you get close to it and blow it with a current off your hand - or provide sudden shade directly over it with your hand. Take a look at and compare with pictures on this site of aiptasia and compare - if it is killl them asap.

It is not aptasia, im already dealing with that elsewhere in the tank lol. Ot looks just like a featherduster without a long tube. I suppose the tube could be in the rock hole... Im going with featherduster.
my big feather duster retreated after feeding time today, do they usually do this when digesting food? It hasnt come out for like 45 min now. Ive only had it since yesterday, so im paranoid I guess lol

Good - at least you know what it's not - not so good it's elsewhere though :( I had it in my 125 reef, and prior to taking the liverock from that tank over to the 475 I let the LR dry outside in our 100 deg weather for 3 weeks. So far the big DT doesn't have it, and am really really trying to keep it that way.
