i just purchesed a sebae anemone for my 2 black saddlebacks. the original fish was hosting a carpet when i got it. so whe i got a pair i got a torch just to see if something would happen......nothing did. then i came across a sebae so i got it just to see if anthing would happed.....well within 30min of putting it in the tank they both took turns rubbing and hosting the only thing is it looks soo ruff and they will not let the anem. plant its foot with all the thrashing. i got a lil cover the anem. the nem hasnt been able to plant its foot for 3 days till i came up with this. pic below

now i have heard that a hosting fish is good for the nem while aclimating. but this is a lil bit ridiculous.

any suggestions? should i just let the nem float around because i have some coral and dont want to lose them or should i just keep trying to get it to plant on a rock i have under the "hood"?

yeah let them do there thing. they know what to do. when i got my anem it didn't plant its foot for 2 days cause of the strong water flow but finally landed somewhere in the back and moved to the front. then it died a week later cause i used some reef vitamins that it didn't like at all.

That anemone is not long for this world. Unfortunetly there are no 'yellow' sebae anemones, nor orange, nor pink. It is a very appalling practice where they dye the anemone with food coloring, and this usually a certain death because zooxanthellae can no longer form with the anemone. The very short tentacles are other clue of poor health of sebaes.

When I was new to saltwater,I also purchased what I was told was a yellow sebae. Alas as Aquaknight stated, it's not long for this world.

i know this now
but of course they never mentioned they were dyed
(do they ever) and i was so disapointed as i was uneducated on the dyeing of corals it WAS such an outlandish idea to me. around here the only nems that will go with the saddlebacks are carpets and iam not confident in paying 150$ and up for a carpet. so when i came across a sebae i snagged it. but i will say its about 3in wider and tenticals looks way better than in the store and with a hosting fish hopefully not all it lost fingers crossed.

Don't give up on it. I have two of them, one started changing right away, it is the one with my forum name, the other one after 2 years finely turned brown and is growing. Don't know why the one took so long, but I am very happy that it is thrivin now. The one in the picture is the size of a turkey platter or bigger. It is now a sebae tank, black clown hosting. And just a starry blenny, a crab or two and no corals as it is so big it killed them all. Well except my hammer that is up in the corner, but they are battling now so going to have to move it out to. I've had both of them for over 2 years.

like i said it looks WAY better than it did in the store but, the fish wont let it be so it can plant its foot and truly accl. when i place it, it starts to plant its foot and then the fish thrashes in it and up roots it and flips it upside down. this is my first nem. and i want it to survive SO BAD. should i stop touching it and moving it (even if its upside down) till it settels down or wut?
