seeding base rock

hey kids...
got a question. 40g tank, 50pds oldcastle sand, 20pds ls. can i get away with only a couple of pounds of lr and the rest base rock? if i allow extra time for cycle, might this work? would the couple of pds of lr and the ls seed the base rock?

Bacteria wise, a couple lbs Live sand and a couple lbs LR on top of base rock will "eventually" grow a "sustainable" level of "biological" filtration...
As you said...take it slow on the cycle and when adding fish...
On the other hand... the more Live Rock (more so than live sand in a bag) the more "Life" and "diversity" you will have in your tank...
Worms, Pods, Crabs, Feather Dusters,Filter feeders, Sponges...and everybody's favorite..."Coraline" will come with your LR...
The more you start with the greater your chances of "diversity" in your mini ecosystem...
