You could get away with getting all base rock and seeding the rock with a cup of live sand. This would allow you to use mostly base sand as well.
Or you could use 20 pounds of base rock and seed it with one 5 or so pound piece of live rock.

ok, but can someone answer this? i have an artificial coral reef from 247fishstore.com. it is very porus like live rock. u can hardly tell the difference. would that seed just as well as base rocks? if u need to look at one then go to www.247fishstor.com.
look under aquarium decorations
then go to pre-built coral reefs and they have some examples
does it have to be real rock to seed it well?
or otherwise, can it be seeded well enough to be use as a filtration sorece?

reefr, dude, just a lil warning, but please dont post links to competitors sites, and yes, as you have been told multiple times now, your fake coral will seed, but, you are going to need some real LR to start the seeding process
