I have recently decided to go for a salt water setup on my new 55 gal.tank. and like many newbies i have many questions. one being my equipment? i purchased an emperor400 filter, from a saltwater only lfs. He tells me what i have isnt good enough. Then i stumble onto another lfs and he suggested for me to get an sump wet/dry filter with a sock in it  because the emperor400 wouldn't perform well enough for the 55 gal. setup. Which one is better? what should I go with? If any one with more knowledge willing to help i'll appreciate it all.
and I currently have about 50+ pound of live rock.

To add to the confusion I'll add a third opinion. Both the emperor 400 filter and the wet/dry filter are bio-filters sometimes with mechanical filtration.
Live Rock and Live Sand is the best bio-filtration you could have. There is no real need for any additional filtration as long as you have around 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of rock per-gallon of water.
At this point read, read, read. Sumps, refuges, skimmers, etc... all very good for reefs.
