Seio controller

Anyone have one of these?
I need to create flow for my 125. I need two seio pumps due to their ability to provide gentle current. These will be placed in the front top corners and I want them to gently blow on the sand bed to keep debris and diatoms off of the sand. My question is do you think this is a good idea? I want to get the controller because I hear it powers down the pumps and the future sps would like alternating current. But you must get at least the 1100 model for the controller to work. How does the controller work? Does it keep the power at 50% and give spurts of 100% or the other way around. I am thinking that 1100 gph of flow may stir up the sand too much unless it is only on full a little bit of the time.

Try talking to Cannonman. He just got two 1500's and controller in his 75G for his sps's. His sand looks great it gets neat little whirlwinds once in a while, water stay clear and only lasts a second. Last time I talked to him he was very happy. I think you can set it to how long it powers up or down but don't quote me. I'm thinking the 1100's for my 75.

Yeah, I love mine, no need to point them at the sand, have the currents converge in the upper middle of the tank and you will wonderful surface agitation and a great mixed direction flow for any sps you have. The sand will stay plenty clear - although for a 125 I would go AT LEAST two 1500's, if it were me I would go two 2600's or one 1500 and one 2600 but thats JMO.
the control makes the pumps ramp up and down from 50% to 100% how ever often you like, the shortest setting being 15 seconds (which is what I have mine on) Net result is a never ending and always changing current pattern.

Thanks Caanonman.
Now, you have yours mounted on the back upper corners? How long is your tank? Mine is 72" I have really fine sand and it is such a pain to keep it clear of diatoms. But is such a sweet color when it stays clean. I tried aiming pwerheads at it but just creates a snowstorm. So i'm thinking seio for their "widepath" blow. If I can surge the blow then the sand storm would be short and not continious. Does this method you have going keep your sand bead clean? Also wouldnt 2 2600's be too much. Thats 5000 gph just there. I was thinking 2 1100's. Can u post a pic of your setup?

I have some pics posted somewhere, I promise you that two 1100's are too small... promise. My two 1500's are in a predominately sps tank 48" long and it's perfect... sand stays BRIGHT WHITE- and I have really fine sand to so if I were you I would go with what I mentioned above. Mine are mounted in the middle sides..1/3 of the way down.

So you think two 2600's mounted like yours will do the job? Also how does the controller work? For every 15 seconds of max flow how long does it stay on 50%? I would want the 50% most of the time. It just suprises me that 3000gph even intermittenly would create a saudi sand storm in your tank. Is it because the flow is so spread out? I have a 1200gph rio 20hf pump and it is too much in my tank anywhere so i use it for my return. I really appreciate your help.

I just got the controller and 2 1500's, love the water motion, controller takes all of 2 seconds to setup and learn. Hands down well worth the money.

But how does it work. If I put the 100% on for 15 sec intervals how long does the 100% stay on?

They are on 50% for fifteen seconds and then ramp up to 100% (pretty quickly) and they are on that for 15 seconds then back down and so on and so forth... and yes, the flow is a wide output.. I don't know about others but I took the lower outer housing off so it's a very wide stream..you can't program them to stay on 50% longer than 100%, just the frequency with which they change... you'll have to research some more I guess but like I said.. the two 1500s are PERFECT for my reef 75. I'm only guess that you would want a little more in a 125 tank.. maybe one 2600 and one 1500???? I have mine mounted one third of the way down the tank pointed slightly upwards so both streams meet in about the middle of the tank- very cool. Shop around to, there's a big difference in prices from site to site. I bought a 2600 the first time and realized that would be too much for my tank.. I paid 74 and sold it for 60 on the big e..yeah, I lost a little but that's how the ball rolls I guess.. maybe you could find a deal on there... and if you get 2600s and find that it is too much (I don't think this will happen) you could always sell them and get two 1500s and not really be out all that much money.. dollar for dollar I think these are the best.

Argh...One of the 1500's suction cups failed and the blasted thing landed in my LS bed and blew really fine sand all over the entire tank while I was at work today. This is the only complaint I have with the seios, those suction cups are the worse and that u shaped bracket to hang them on the side of a tank is the wrong size for a ALL-Glass brand tank as the bracing is to think, looks like I'm going to get the hacksaw out and score a small notch so that I can use the bracket as these are some pretty powerfull pumps and this is a HUGE mess. I still like the controller and pumps, this is just a little setback....

maxalmon- Did u find that the 2 1500 were enough to keep your sandbed nice and stirred but not a sandstorm? Ur info says that u have a 180g. Iim thinking urs is 72" wide just like mine. How do you mount yours? Im trying to keep diatom buildup to a minimum

I have multiple tanks, this setup with the Seio's and controller is for the new 75g sps tank. I have incredible water movement with these 1500's, it's almost like ALL the water in the tank moves at the same time, not just one concentrated area. I will be converting all the tanks over to the Seio's and controllers over the next few weeks

Acrylic, the controller will work with only the 1100, 1500, and 2600. I unfortunately own two 620's.

I own a 2600, and it's really bulky....I might use it in my upcoming prop system......Who cares the controllers by chance????

Yes, I have the controller and a pair of 1500's. The controller is designed to work on a maximum of 2 powerheads and will only work with the 1100, 1500 or 2600 superflow

If you dig around enough, you can find them for the same price at a lot of the major online stores. I like purchasing from the established stores, shipping is less, less chance of getting shafted etc... I got mine for $117
