aquarium keepers PAY for the inhabitants in their tanks. the inhabitants aren't pest, as the ones you described (rats, ants, etc.). when pests do show up in the tank (bristle worms, aptasia, etc.) they are removed. however we do not VOLUNTARILY PURCHASE these pests.
Also about the "yank something out of the ocean" question, much effort is being put forth to raise fish and coral in captivity with many fish not ever knowing what the ocean is. and the fish are "happy" being in these tanks where a steady supply of food is avaliable and there SHOULD BE protection from predators.
I have killed fish in this hobby also, but I don't think relating pest-control to a hobby that you have chosen to participate in is a very good justification for your argument.

So now both of the issues you mentioned have been addressed.
