Serpent Starfish eating clowns?

So ive been battling this for the last few weeks. I went out of town and I come back and my buddy said that my clownfish just disappeared! I figured it was because my heater went out and it got a little hot in there 82ish. Well I fixed the heater and let it be for a few days. My sixline and my goby were doing fine as normal and I saw ***** was having a sale on clowns. I got 2 for $13 each. Not bad. They were really cool fish. Very active. Well I wake up this morning and I didn't see them. I just got home and they were dead. One under a rock and the other one in a rock with my serpent star munching on it. I pulled both of them out and disposed of the remains.
 
It's not a green or a red one. It's tan with balck rings around the arms. My wrasse and goby are perfectly fine and my water params are good also. Why can't I keep a clownfish?

BTW this is in a reef 24g aquapod, PC's, upgraded pump and an extra powerhead. SG is 1.026 and temp is around 77.

If your heater went out, how did the temp of your water get hotter, and you went to ***** to buy fish? IMHO I would never buy live stock from *****. But it could have been many things. I dont think those starfish's eat fish.

My bad I was reading a heater thread. I meant pump. My pump impeller went out but the motor was still running causing it to get extremely hot. Yeah I normally don't buy from ***** but I figured they'd live longer than 5 days.

IME Banded serpent stars will not kill and eat fish, I have two in two different tanks, both larger than my hand, and neither one has ever bothered a healthy fish. They will certainly consume a dead fish, and may grab ahold of one that is dying. I would say you need to look elsewhere for the source of your deaths.
