setting up a RO/DI unit

Has anyone ever set-up there RO/DI unit by themselves or is it best left to the professionals? If so please explain and give it a dificulty rating from 1 to 10. 10 being do not try yourself.

They seem confusing to set up when you look at them. I just picked up one and i'm goign to give it a shot myself

Tell us what you are aiming to do. Tap your cold water line, screw into a faucet, where are you putting the waste water line to. It should be no harder than a 3 and 1hr or less of your time.

I have setup my own, but I also think that you need to tell us what your gonna do. I, for example, setup my RO/DI in my basement. I bought a couple 44 gallon rubbermaid garbage cans that are used to hold the RO water and I used a old piece of hose that runs the waste water to the basement drain. Most newly purchased RO units, if not all, require you to discard the first 10 to 20 gallons of RO water to get rid of the coating and packaging material to keep them from drying out. So, at first, I would just hook it up to a sink or bathtub and let it run for a day or two. Then, get your setup the way you want it. If you have the instructions that came with the unit, it would help a you a great deal. Is your unit new or used?
