A journal is a great idea. A lot of people do this, myself included.

You will find a journal will be very helpful down the road when you are trouble shooting strange things in the tank and need a reference for things like water parameters.
Are you doing a FOWLR setup?
I would suggest a skimmer and a sump would be beneficial as well.

I saw your other post. Did that answer your questions about sumps?
If you need more info, such as how to set it up try doing a search. If you still have questions, myself or certainly others will be glad to explain in detail. :joy:

im super new at this but i read somewhere in here that you might not want to set up near a window. just a thought:)

As long as you keep the blinds closed it should not be a problem. Wouldn't hurt to paint the back of the tank either. JMO, I think it looks nicer since it hides power cords and other equipment from view.

there are these plastic overflows that just hang on your tank. they'll run you about 50 or so. im planning on getting one "eventualy" for a 10g sump/fuge on my 29g. send me an email if you need help finding one and i could give you some web sites that got them. later
