IT is in the QT right now with a fresh bottle of tigger pods and a bunch that were brought in from the cheato from my 150g.

Renee, you evil woman!! You cut off his spike!!! Do we have a smiley holding his crotch?

Your mandarin is either a female or a Juvie male, Jsheperd. Females of the species tend to stay smaller on the whole compared to the males. And, of course, men have their little spike to wave around.

Wow now I know what they mean by spike on the front dorsal if that is a real pic..geez.
I had one before from here that was a larger one and I just could never get him to eat. He never had good color and after a month in the DT I felt so bad for him I wanted to put him to sleep.
I spent over $100 in pods to give him plenty to eat and have 200 lbs of live rock that had been in a tank for 8 yrs and then mine for a year. But I lost him.
I would like this one to start eating other things as well so I have been trying to feed mysis, brine shrimp and arcti pod.

I have a spotted manderin thats eating mysis...leave powerheads OFF and spot feed your mysis w/ a turkey baster.....if rinsed in declored tap it will float for a bit , looking "alive" , then settled to the bottom and it should eat it, thats how I got my scooter dragonette to eat mysis also....just no powerheads on for about 15 mins.....there slower than horses to eat

So do you try to squirt some in front of the mandarin or in the general area and let it settle in front of them ?
I use PE mysis which are really big should I chop them up a bit?

That looks photoshopped?
Yes it is.... it the same fish in both pics. Wasn't meant to fool anyone, or I wouldn't have used the exact same pic for both. Just tryin' to show the difference with some paint shop.

The spike is real... I just replaced it with a female fin to show the difference side by side.
This is my guywith his flag flying high... a little skinny after a divorce...

That's a fantastic mandarin pic! Wish I could get mine to pose near the front of the tank. He likes hanging out near the back glass (more pods on that wall) so my shots never turn out quite right. One day, though!!!

I use that pic as an example of what not to buy at the LFS... his pour little "ribs"! This guy was always out front swimming wih the foxface. He ate frozen so maybe he didn't care so much about hunting.

I squirt it in the general area , bout half way down the tank....try it full sized and see if he'll take it....if not then next feeding cut most in half and see if he'll eat....just remember to turn your powerheads back on after he's done
