Sexy Shrimp and the LFS

When I went to the LFS yesterday I asked them if they ever got in sexy shrimp sinc eI don't think I had ever seen them there before. They said that they don't usually carry them because they don't have a place to put them. I didn't think to ask what this meant then but now I'm relly wondering what he meant by this. They have 5 coral/reef tanks that I imagine they could put them in. Is there something I don't know about these shrimp? He said they would special order them if I wanted and that they usually knock a couple dollars off special orders so I do want to get some. Can anyone tell me more about these shrimp?

They would get lost in a normal tank, making it impossible to find them to sell them. My LFS keeps a few in a tiny display tank he keeps set up for a shrimp/goby trio and some loose shrooms he finds in shipments.

Yeah they are very small shrimp. Usually getting to be like 3 quarters of a inch at FULL size. I got mine when they were all maybe a quarter of a inch long. So unless they have smaller areas to keep these shrimp it.. it may be hard to catch/find them in a bigger holding tank.

Yes, these cute little shrimp are really fun to have and watch. Put them into a tank with ocellaris clowns and they will have a circus act going on. Mine took my sexy shrimp and tossed it all over the tank until it was dead. By the time I new better my 14.99.. :scared: shrimp was gone.
In my opinion they should be kept in a small tank (10 gal) with their own kind and some very passive inverts. I don't know of any fish that would leave them alone.

My LFS said that they cannot be kept in a tank with any other shrimps like peppermints or cleaners, as these larger shrimp will kill them.

ok thanks, that makes complete sense now! my fish have never offered to bother anything in the tank and like to hang out by themselves so I doubt they would bother them. I have some hermits but not many so I think I'll try them out.

I find that completely untrue. I have fireshrimp and peppermints in my tank with sexy shrimp and that has never been a issue (also a pistol shrimp too).
Also as far as the fish attacking them.. i've heard that some species of clowns will attack sexy shrimp.. my true percs have never and my yellow tang and chromis also have never.

I have a clown and bicolor blenny in a 24g. They both do well and I've never had any problems with them messing with anything in the tank.
