It's not uncommon for Gymnothorax fimbriatus to kill tankmates and not eat them. They're a highly territorial, highly aggressive Moray species. I have first hand accounts of small Fimbriated (20" - 25") killing/eating 10"+ fish.
Hopefully, you're planning on having a 1500gal.+ tank, which is doubtful, so please...leave the Remora in the ocean, where they belong.

Boy they aren't kidding when they say these eels are blind as a bat! I gave him some frozen food yesterday, I use a long plastic stick to put it on. He came up poked it with his nose and it floated off, he poked it again to try to eat it and missed it. It floated on top of the water, right passed him several times..he never got it, kept snapping at nothing, and eventually gave up. So I got a net scooped it out and put another piece on the stick..I put it right in front of his snout, this time he got it. How do they catch fish if their eye sight is so bad? It took him 15 mins to get 3 goldfish the other day, and I think the only reason he got them was because they were dying and couldn't swim away. How do they catch food in the wild? And what kinds of fish do they generally eat? Just curious...he will be gone in a few days and I'm gonna miss him, he is a joy to watch but I know I can't keep him.

I'd say that 75% - 80% of the time, Morays miss prey, when striking...I think that's why they're capable of going for long periods of time without eating.
Fimbriated are a traveling species, meaning they dont spend 99% of their time in the same hole, like most species. They'll roam and just happen to bump into fish.

You got that right, blizz! I mainly keep nothing but Morays and I'd still rather not own one...those and the Black Edge Morays...talk about psycho. I love the look of Fimbys and I like their aggressiveness, but I just dont want to set up a 90gal. for one specimen.

How much is he willing to pay for one? I really got to know what it is worth before I go Friday. I've googled yellowhead moray eel & Fribriatus and only found two sites offering them for sale, one site had show size (20"+) which is what he is and had no price, it said to call. The other had one was 23" $120.00. and was sold, so I'm guessing that was a really good deal. I'm only getting a percentage of what it's worth, thats how they work it. I would like to get a few good size corals for it so If you could give me some idea I would appreciate it. Thanks

Really, cause I know they paid $100.00 for him a couple of years ago here in tn..you can't even get a small SF for 40.00 any where here and they are quite common, just about every LFS has them. I guess it depends on locality and avalibility. I'll just go by what they paid for him.

Ok thats what I thought, they are not exactly common, I did a long search and worded it different every time still only two sites had them. Thanks for the imput.

I took him to LFS today they had a 75 gallon already for him..It was sad, I'm gonna miss him but I know he is better off there in the bigger tank. I did get some video of him but I'm having a hard time uploading it to google and putfile, they keep saying file type not supported..but it's video?? I'll keep working at it I want you all to check it out. They might even keep him, they have a huge tank that has some other fish and stuff in it and as soon as they sell them they said they will put him in there. The owner loves him, makes the snowflake in the other tank look like a worm!
