Well I came home after 2 days being out of the house and i couldnt find my SFE anywhere  so i kept looking around and decided to start feeding the fish cuz when i do that the eel goes nuts....no sign so i looked around the tank and found him about 3 feet from the tank behink my desk and the wall dark, and dead no sign of movement.....So i got all pissed off and grabbed a bag and then grabbed him...HE STARTED MOVING!! So i grabbed a bin and put him in there and started siphoning water right onto him washing him off and filling the bin...within 5 seconds he started swimming laps....Will he be ok? has anyone had this happen??

lmao i had the same thing happen to me with my black moray.i woke to find him all crusty and stuck to my kitchen floor i picked him up nothing walked over to my trash can and he flinched i ran to his tank tossed him back in hes been fine ever sinse.if you plan on keeping him place crate on the top of your tank that will keep him in if hes large enough.if not ,you may have to go with glass tops.id toss him back into his home he bucket hes in will make more stress for him

ive had this happen to me a couple of times, ive been able to save 3 of them, and im sorry to say i just lost a sfe a couple of weeks ago, i love them but i hate them at the same time. i just sold my last eel and i dont know if ill go back to them. they always find a way out even the smallest opening they will get out, thats why when some people say they dont use tops and have eels thats just stupidity IMO.

Mine has escaped a few times through the smallest of openings... he is now named Houdini and is about 2.5 foot long... the last time my daughter left the glass pulled out and when he hit the floor...at around 12:00 it woke me up it was so loud.. wife got a kick out of watching me try to get his slimy butt in a holding tank to wash him off.

Here's an idea that i thought of, just place tape over any opening, instead of buying a whole new top, then again, hope it doesn't get stuck when it tries to jump out, lol

Yet another reason eels freak me out. Not only do they look like snakes with big teeth but they are always trying to get out and they can live for a while out of water. No eels for my tank, thanks.

The eels just love to escape, Usually it is because they do not have enough hiding places in their tank to feel comfortable. Try increasing the amount of cover for the eel. When I worked at an aquatic shop we kept multiple pieces of PVC pipe in the tanks for the eels to hide in. The tanks were open and occasionally during the first few days the eels would try to escape and I might experience an eel on the floor...I would put it back in the tank and it would be fine.
