SFE in trouble...

Hi guys..
Just had a very weird thing happen..
Whilst feeding my sfe a large peice of krill, it drifted onto the sand bed...and as the sfe ate it, he also ate a small peice of LR that was resting on the sand bed..a round peice, about the size of a large coin..
The snowflake eel is definatly NOT going good..you can see the rock in his stomach...
He is breating hard, and you can even see some of it in his throat when he breaths...
Why has this happened to ME?
Water conditions are fine...just did a water change 2 days ago..
Is there anything i can do?

Unfortunatley, there is really nothing you can do. The object is too big to pass. More than likely he won't make it too much longer. Sorry. Bo

I had to euthenize about 10 minutes after this post..
the eel couldnt swim properly, and was having sever trouble in breathing. My big hermit (5" claws) was also starting to attack the eel.
I put him in a bag of saltwater, and then into the freezer..
Is there any reason this has happened? Was there anything that could of made him do this?

As mentioned, that would be stupidity, in or out of the water, and yes, maybe it would have had the same result, but its chances were better by not trying(til euthanasia)(many animals can at least thro up and if they are trying, it is better to let tehm, instead of trying to harm them. the only way to handle an eel in this circumsatance woudl be brutally also, not to mention the damage he could do to you)
And I hafta agree, that stuffing is an uncalled for response. Most of us here do care about our pets and the pets of others. They are not just fish to us.

Thanks for the responses guys...
As for:
"you could have done it in the water- What's the worse that would happen? It would die like it did?"
I did not attempt this for a few reasons;
1) Eels can swim...
2) How exaclty would you hold onto a 15" moray eel in water?
3) It would just be putting the eel through more and more stress..
Anyway, thanks for the support guys..
Has anyone heard of this thing happening before? How common is this type of thing?
jwtrojan: i did not need to examin the eel after death, as i actually saw him eat the rock..a peice of krill drifted over it..

I had something similar happen with my Volitans a while ago. except that it wasn't rock, it was the large grade live sand that I put in my 200gal trying to save a bit of money. I'd had him for quite a while, so it was a bit of a punch in the gut for me. I kept kicking myself in the butt and damning myself for not feeding him larger shrimp so that he *couldn't* have ingested any sand. It's a horrible feeling because you can only sit there and blame yourself. Sorry about your eel :(
