Sharing my 24g Nano

Hey all, so I've been on here for months but have yet to post any pictures of my tank, until now.... This is my tank 90% recovered from weeks of battling with cyano. I have two darwin clown fish, 1 purple firefish, 1 scooter blenny (with a fuge in the back) that eats cyclop-eeze, and tons of snails and hermit crabs. I wish I had a better camera to take pictures but I'll work with what I got. I recently added new marco rocks which is why you see a few random pieces of white rock. Also there are a few frags on the rack on the left that you cant really see. Happy holidays everyone!

Very cool I think the pics are just fine, better than I do!! No anenome, have you thought about getting one? Nice tank.

I have but I want a carpet or rose anem and those are expensive. Does anybody know if my clowns have been known to host either of those types?

Nice tank..looking good! I noticed a thermometer in the corner, its not the metal type is it? If so I would get it out of there ASAP. The saltwater will erode it and cause some water issues for ya! Just my opinion...

looks great. i wouldnt get an anemone for many reason:
1. your clowns might not even host it.
2. your water may not be very mature for it
3. you dont have the proper light. (my guess you have the PC)
anyways the tank is looking super! more coral should make it amazing!
sorry if it sounds mean but im trying to help. clowns look super! love it bro!

No worries Nissan. To answer your questions my tank has been up and around for about 5 months now. So at least another month before I could get an anem. I actually have MH's on there so I can pretty much keep any corals I want (I think) unless someone tells me otherwise.
Jemshore,
The thermometer is not the metal kind. It's been hanging in there for about 5 months now so I think it'll be ok. I've been thinking about switching to digital if anybody has any good suggestions on a good one. I've read that most digital thermometers blow.

sounds great. and you can keep anything you want. also if you can move the nozzle up so that the top can get movement that will be great!

Troy,
I have 150W metal halides. No particular brand, just something I picked up off a auction website that I'm not sure I'm allowed to mention. Everyone says that Sunpod's are the best but I'm not sure why unless its a particular light bulb they like to use.
Nissan,
Thanks for the tip man. I've been trying to figure out how to give the top more flow while allowing my corals to get a decent amount of flow as well. I'm glad I can keep any corals I want. I know a dude in the bay area and he gives me pretty good deals on corals and even replaces them if for any reason they die; an emerald crab ate some of my mushrooms and lets just say he took bath in a certain room and never came back. Also, I did use your fuge idea in the back. Super cool idea.

Google this one,
Hagen Marina Aqua-Minder Programmable Digital Thermometer
I use the non-reminder one and it works awesome, I have used the coralife and lifeguard before and I almost torched my tank with the coralife it was about 6 degrees off, the reading was 78, but the water was more like 85, I thought it felt too warm so I used a good ol fashion glass one and I almost freaked when I saw how off it was.
I use a SunPod 150w on my 54 corner with a PC 20" Actinic Fixture behind it. Even for it being 150w and not 250w it really penetrates pretty deep. I would like to upgrade to a 250w version down the road but my corals seem to be happy for now. I am using a 20k bulb in mine. I might test a 14k and see how it does.

Your tank looks like it is coming along well. I love you fish! Very nice pair of clowns, are they exhibiting pairing behavior yet, or did they come mated already?

You know I was/am scared of digital thermometers because I always hear about them being off by quite a bit. I'm scared one day I'll wake up to toasted or frozen fish. I suppose I shouldnt worry about that because my heater has been keeping the tank at a fairly consistent temperature despite the cold CALIFORNIA weather. I'm a little suprised you managed to make a 150W work for a 54g tank. Are you keeping any sps in there?

I actually got them a week apart so they didn't come mated already. My LFS had a tank full of them and they were expensive so I picked one up first then decided I better pair them while they are young. So far they swim together all the time. They fought at first but they seem ok now. No submissive behavior dances yet though. They are still very young, about an inch for the larger of the two. They are super neat though and eat from my fingers if I put food into the tank. I actually had a pair of regular orange o-clowns but when I saw these guys I had to have them. I gave those clowns away to a local reef club member and picked these guys up.

I'm sure it was the emerald crab. The first night I put in my mushroom I came back 2 hours later to him standing over it munching on it and it was half gone. I thought maybe it was a coincidence until I saw him doing the same thing to some tub blues. I tried to catch him then but he got away into the rocks. The next morning both the mushroom and the blue tubbs had been eaten clean from the rocks. Next I saw him munching away at a green striped mushroom and I spent the next few hours trying to catch him. I waited until lights were out and I nabbed him by hand with a flashlight.

I wouldn't reccomend a carpet nem in a 24, not that I have done any actual research on them but they get ENORMUSSS!! =O I saw one at my LFS that was like as big as I could make my stretched out arms intoa circle. A rose, like a Rose Bubble Tip? Lots of people have those in their nanos, I'm gonna get one soon when I get a lighting upgrade. Clowns can =(but wont nessiceily) host both.
Nice tank. =)
