well your profile says you have a 40 gallon tank, which means you shouldnt be keeping a shark thats WAY to small for a shark
but as for your question i dont think it really matter, i think they are prettier under pc
i know longer have the 40.. I am in the process of doing some research on what kind of an aggressive tank i want to start up.. i took a 1 year break from the hobby and want to get back into it again. I want either have a shark or a clown trigger tank... just one fish.. i plan on setting up a tank that is 300 gallons or a little bit larger.. thanks
Sharks don't have any lighting requirements, obviously they need enough light to replicate the sun cycle, but usualy lighting on shark tanks is the aquarists preference to a certain lighting.
what type of filter and equipment would i need to keep a shark. Ive done reef and had great success with water quality.. should i have a refuge with a shark set up?

Main equipement should be a huge skimmer because of the huge bioload sharks/rays have. Next you want as much live rock, sand, and macro algae to keep the nitrates/ammonia at 0 constantly. Sharks/Rays get irritated easily by nitrates. Usualy that stuff can go in a sump or in the DT.

seems like the same equipment as a reef. thanks for your help..
Yeah basicly. Just watch those ammonia and nitrate levels and don't overstock.
if i decide to do a shark it will be the only fish in the tank.. with me reef i always maintained 0 nitrates so that should be easy part.. getting a good healthy shark is what worries me the most..

Best sharks come from shark dealers who you can trust and have good reputation. If you get it from a lfs then make sure they have a good reputation of healthy fish. If you do get a 300g, the two sharks you're looking at are the coral catshark and the marbled catshark.

No invertabrates or small fish with sharks and rays.

You're welcome. And remember when you order the tank, obvioulsy 7' long is great, but try and get at least a 2.5 feet wide aquarium. 2' wide is pressuring the smallest sharks avaible, the bigger you go, the better, and of course more options you have.
Actually sound like there's still a few factors you may need to consider before getting the tank and setting it up.
Which species of shark do you want to keep. There's several good species to choice from.
This will help in finding out what size tank you will ultimately need to keep the shark for life.
I would like to get a coral catshark. Any opinion on what is the best shark to keep in a tank around the size of a 300 gallon tank. I will go with a 7ft long and 2.5 ft wide tank or a little bigger. thanks..

The 7'x2.5' should be good for a single catshark.
