Sharks and damsels

I have a shark egg in one of my tanks and i have a 120 gallon cycling right now. I want to know how long this will take to cycle if I have 11 damsels, 70 lbs of live rock and no live sand (working on getting some cheap.) My main question is that when the shark hatches will it be safe to put him in with the damsels???

i dont see a problem. im assuming your talking about a banded cat shark. Damsels get a little territorial, but that size tank should be large enough. Also a small banded cat shark may have a hard time feeding a such a large tank. I usally keep my newborns in a 20g and turn off the filter and let mysis shrimps blow around untill they get fast and smart enough

What kind of damsels are they? some are meaner than others.... I have one FU@#$@#$ damsel that keeps hitting my leopard sharks... I was able to get all those little buggers out but one... I am going to end up taking all my rock out to get him... Try to sell your damsels back to the lfs or post them here... good luck...

I've never had problems with damsels bothering my sharks. Actually my sharks killed all three of the damsels in the tank.

you could use a feeding stick also...the shark may outgrow the 120 in 6-12 months though...yes yes, there are few people that may say they keep x many sharks in the same size tank for a year w/o any problems...that does not mean they will remain so in that size of the of a tank; at some point you should also look for a larger tank

I was more concerned about my shark killing my damsels but whatever. Also what are some good tank mates for sharks?

yellow tangs are fine.... if you get an eel make sure your tank is sealed or they will escape! Green morays are pretty exotic but pricy...

Don't keep triggers, filefish, butterfly fish, large angelfish, and puffers with sharks. Thats all I can remember.

I cant agree with "SPLASH 1914" about those frisky damsels.... LOL I had 5 when cycling and now I have one.. I cant catch him either. LOL but I have no problems with my line up :)
