Anyone have any good recipes on Shepherds Pie? We've tried a few different ones, but none of them are as good as the one from Cheesecake Factory.
So does anyone know of any sheperds pie recipes that rock?

Not sure but my grandparents stopped by my place today, and give me a big container of awesome Shepherds Pie.

I'd imagine it isn't rocket science. Cooked ground beef in a deep baking pan, diced carrots/peas over top, lots of shredded cheese over, then mash potatoes on top, then bake in the oven for a bit. The secret is probably in the gravy/seasoning of the ground beef. You do every fresh, fresh grated cheese, fresh homemade mash potatoes, fresh veggies, etc, its going to be almost impossible to make it not taste great.

Traditional Shepherds Pie does not have any cheese in it.
Ground Beef
Carrots
Peas
Onions
Mashed Potatoes
We usually brown the meat and onions together, then add in the cooked veggies. Mix in some salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce and one dark beer and let it simmer for a while, until most of the beer evaporates. Put it in a casserole dish and top it with the mashed potatoes. Throw that in the oven till the potatoes are nice and brown on top and then try not to burn your mouth off as you gobble it down!

My mom's recipe is pretty good, I'll have to ask her for it. I made it with her once recently with veggie ground round instead because I don't eat meat and it was SO good, even my husband (the carnivore) loved it. There is creamed corn in it, I think that helps.

the best version...
1 small onion
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
2 (8-ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 1/2 cups mixed vegetables or niblet corn, prepared
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
8 to 10 medium red new potatoes
1 1/2 cups milk
12 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup sour cream
2 cups instant biscuit mix
Directions
Beef Layer: Saute onions in 2 tablespoons butter. Add ground beef. After beef is browned, add tomato sauce; Mix in vegetables. Add salt and pepper, to taste.
Potato Layer: Peel and slice potatoes 1/4-inch thick. Cook in boiling water for approximately 15 minutes or until fork-tender. Whip potatoes with electric mixer; mix until moderately smooth. Don't over beat them; a few lumps are nice. Add 1/2 cup heated milk, 1/2 cup butter, and sour cream. Salt and pepper, to taste. Whip until mixed. Adjust thickness by adding more milk, if desired.
Biscuit Layer: Combine biscuit mix and 1 cup milk. The mix should be thinner than normal biscuit mix but not runny.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Spray a 9 by 9 by 2-inch pan, or any similar casserole dish. Layer half way up with the mashed potatoes. Next, spread a layer of mixed vegetables or niblet corn on top of potatoes. Then add a layer of the meat. Pour biscuit mix over meat. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter and drizzle over top. Bake for approximately 35 to 45 minutes until top is golden brown.

Tyler Florence's Shepherd's Pie
Prep Time:
40 min
Inactive Prep Time:

Cook Time:
1 hr 5 min
Level:

Serves:
8 servings
Ingredients
Mashed Potatoes:
* 3 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and quartered
* 1 tablespoon salt
* 1 cup milk, warm
* 1/2 stick butter, room temperature
Directions
Place the cut potatoes in a large stockpot, cover with cold water and add salt. Bring to a boil, then simmer until the potatoes are fork tender, about 20 to 30 minutes. Drain well in a colander. While the potatoes are still warm, press them through a potato ricer or food mill and into a mixing bowl. Whip in the warm milk and softened butter until incorporated and the potatoes are fluffy. Cover and keep warm.
Filling:
* 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
* 2 pounds boneless beef brisket or chuck steak, cubed
* 2 garlic cloves, chopped
* 1 cup chopped onion
* 2 bay leaves
* Salt and pepper, to taste
* 2 tablespoons flour
* 2 cups canned beef broth, low sodium
* 8-ounce can chopped tomatoes
* Celery, carrot, 1/2 onion, tied together with string
* 2 cups frozen sweet peas, thawed
* 2 cups frozen diced carrots, thawed
* 1 cup pearl onions, blanched
* 3 tablespoons chopped parsley
In a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, add the oil then braise the beef with the garlic, onion, and bay leaves. Season with salt and pepper. When the meat is browned and the onion is tender, dust with flour. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring often. Pour in the beef broth and cook for 2 minutes until the mixture begins to thicken. Add the canned tomatoes and the whole vegetables tied together. Simmer for 5 minutes to infuse the flavors, then remove the vegetable bundle. Add the peas, carrots, pearl onions, and parsley. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
Transfer the meat mixture to a 9 by 13-inch casserole dish. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top of the casserole. Dot with butter if desired. Bake in a preheated 350 degree F oven until the potatoes are golden, about 30 minutes.
