Should I buy a 90gln Tank?

I have the opportunity to purchase a 90gln tank, base and canopy for $400. That's a good deal, yes? It's currently set up as a freshwater, but can be converted to a saltwater, yes? For years I've been wanting a reef tank and I'm finally ready to take the plunge. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you.

seems way too much. Is the tank drilled?

I don't believe so, no. I've only seen two pictures, but it seems pretty basic. Has a lot of potential though.

In my area, you can buy a new 90g for $200 or a drilled one with 1 overflow for $250.
So spending $400 for a used tank, stand, canopy seems high.
Are you good at making your own stand? Very easy to do.

I'm definately not a do-it-yourself person. I just found out my floor might not support the weight of such a large tank, so I would have to have additional supports added to that floor area. What a pain! I'll stick to my original plan of a 40 gln species only seahorse tank. Thank you for the input. It's so easy to get carried away with all this stuff.

I wish I could shop where you do. I paid $400.00 new for my 90g tank with a stand and canopy. That was on sale from $650.00 even on the internet, I couldn't find one cheaper.
Make a stand is easy???? For a handyman yes. Be proud of yourself because you can do it, but easy...never, building stands and furniture is an art.
Now as for a used
90g for $400.00 with the stand and canopy I think it is a bit high. Offer the seller less and see if they will negotiate the price. Like $200.00 for everything. You can find really good deals on used tanks and stands.
That person is trying to get out of it what he paid for it. There is nothing wrong with the tank, but you can buy a brand new one for that price. Tell the seller so, it may cause him to rethink his selling price. The worse that he can say is no.

sorry to hear your floor wont hold the 90 but you are welcome to join the seahorse fourm anytime. You can still have your reef tank with horses. Just nothing that stings. Most soft corals are ok with horses. There is a compatibility chart in the seahorse forum you might take a look at.
I have leathers, zoos, shrooms and xenia with my horses.

check the lights, if this was a freshwater setup the light may not be suitable for a reef. Upgrading lights may be an additional expense

If i can do it, anyone can do it. They will even cut all the pieces for you at HD/Lowes. All you need to do is drill/glue together.
this thing can support a tank. I also skinned 2 sides of it. Easy to put doors on it too, but mine is going in a fish room/inwall build so no need.
