Hello,
I have 90gal tank and I would like to keep corals, hard and soft. Which light should buy?
Coralife Aqualight Pro 48" 250 Watt HQI
Coralife Aqualight Pro 48" 150 Watt HQI
Well the high the wattage the better the PAR and penetration of light. Its really for you to decide, but the 250w's might be a better tank light in the long run. You might have heat issues though that you might not if you get the 150w's. Just my .02$
go with the 250w..u won't regret it..thats wat i have over my 90g..corals look great from top to bottom...no heat issues..i use a fan to blow air across the top..temp stays at 79-81 degreess..no chiller....u don't have to worry where to place a sps coral, clams or anenome...

That's what I’m afraid of. I did purchased the 250W but I just have some doubts that might heat some of the soft/hard corals.

Did you buy the same model? Do you have a wooden canopy? Do I have to worry about where I should place the corals so they won’t die?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i have a current usa outer orbit which is 2x250w mh with 4x54w t5..i don't have a canopy..just as long as u light aclimate the corals properly u shouldn't have any problems..keep low light corals closer to the sand and u can keep high light corals anywhere...

Good advise. Thank you.
Do you think a canopy would trap in more heat?
BTW, I'm looking at the Euroreef Rs135 Skimmer. Does anyone know if this is a good brand for my 90gal tank? How about asm G6 skimmer?
Those are both great skimmer for your tank. Either is fine, and there is also Octopus and Bubbleking too. A canopy would trap heat more, but some fans on either side would fix that. And you can make it look nice with a cool grill if you set it back a little.

BTW, The image under your name, is that a coral?

that looks like a clam, and I say go with the 250's
Thank you. You just confirm that I picked the right light. Clam looks like that... Doesn't matter if it is a clam or coral I really like it.
Go with the 250w regardless of what your keeping unless your doing strictly softies and dont want them to grow out too fast (lots of pruning). I feel 150w HQI are relatively weak particularly after the manditory sheilding compared to other watt MH. they should be left strictly to the small aquariums.
make sure u read the paperwork on the fixture some say dont put in a canopy, which at a minimum will cancel your warrenty and may even cause problems to the fixture.
if u have a canopy...the enclosed fixture will heat up very quickly...if u bought ur fixture and havn't used it...u can return and get the retrofit kit...corallife aqualight pro comes in a retrofit kit aswell...and be prepared to cut holes and install fans for extra air flow to keep the fixture and tank cool...

Is it two 150 watt MHs, or one 250 watt MH. Or two 150 watt MHs, or two 250 watt MHs?
It is two 250Watt.

I didn't know what retrofit kit until is I google it. It makes sense but too much work. Can I add extra fans on the canopy to remove hot air? That should be the same thing right?
yes u can add extra fans to the canopy...and as a option...i've seen ppl cut the top off their canopy and place eggcrates as a cover so all the hot air is vented up...
250w are the way to go deffinately if you want to do sps . i would get a good retro kit.. do not buy cheap retro kits the suck..... you can mount 2 fans in the canopy one in one out and you should be fine with heat..... i had a strictly softy tank with 2 175w 20k retros and i couldnt be happier.... i think it is way better vented then the inclosed current or coralife fixture and the bulbs get air also extending the bulb life... my 2 cents
I have a 6month old 48inch coralife aqualight 2x250w MH, 2x96 PC ACT, 3x1 LED moonlight, 3 cooling fans, dual ballasts. for $550+shipping, the fixture is $1100 brand new. Let me know.
This fixture worked fine in an open top canopy.
