It really depends on what you want to do with your tank. Personally I purchased a fx5 when starting out, and ended up converting to a sump style setup. Once I got my feet on the ground so to speak.

My tank has been up for about 1 year now im currently using 2 fluval canister filter and a red sea prizm skimmer ,but i plan on converting to a sump this weekend.thought maybe using the magnum in the sump with carbon only.plan having refugium in the sump along with new skimmer

If you already have 2 canisters why buy another one just to run carbon, just use one you have now?

Canisters are great for running lots of carbon. If that is all you're doing, I'd pull out all the sponges and just toss the carbon in. If you really need too.

I have the Mag 350 and I really like it for cleaning debris out of the water, including food, especially after I scrape the glass when cleaning the tank. I also have a sump w/bioballs and a skimmer.
