I have a 110g long that collects green algae on the back. I don't scrape it off because I have an algae blenney and a sailfin and koran angel that will munch on it.
They keep it undercontrol most of the time.

i have a sh#tload of nassarius snails in my tank.. never once have i seen them eat algea. They ALWAYS unbury themselves and come out when i throw flake food, meaty stuff, frozen food.
but i agree id scrape it off as well.. looks ugly and can spread to your live rock.. which your corals would be on... and cause all sorts of problems.

Hi Tobin,
For some reason my computer is not loading your picture. What kind of algae are you having on the back glass? Is it green hair algea? If so, yeah, go ahead and get rid of it. If it's coraline though, heck, just let it go. I know you've been out of commission for while, but have you been able to check other factors for hair algae...lighting, feeding, sunlight, tap water? Just checking. Also, if it's hair...it will eventually diminish with the right environment...nothing quick in this hobby, as you know.
I wish I could see your picture so I wouldn't have to ask all the questions. Sorry...stoopid computer

no it is green but it doesn't look like hair algae, just standard green algae it is just an eyesore i hate it and like i stated earlier my clean-up crew went carnivore on me (i should get a refund) but it looks like the benefiscial stuff so i'm leaving the low stuff for the on-strike cleaners my lighting is 1134w mh 3-250 mh's 4-96 actinics ph 8-2 am-0 trites-0 trates-20 sg-1.026 temp 80 i do not use the halides everyday as i have no corals as of yet i have good purple coraline growth but no phos test or calcium test or alkalinity either so i posted what i could sorry you can't see the pics they are still here on my end anyway....tobin

How long has your tank been set up? Is it fairly new? The reason I ask is because I'm in the process of re-setting up my 37gal tank and it has pretty much what you describe (again, sorry I can't see the pics... ). Also, do you know how old the bulbs are that you're using...could be that you need to replace those...IDK.

my whole light set-up is less than 2 months old and i forgot to mention in my last thread that there has never been 1 drop of tap in my tank all r-o and this tank has been set up since september also if this matters 170 lbs. of lr and 100 lbs. of ls i think it is just been not as well maintained since i was sick i say was because i am always optimistic they still have to take my spleen, but i was not doing enough water changes still lacking there (trying to use water from the sink-type system only makes 12-14 gal. a day, with 3 young-uns, iced tea, kool-aid etc then evaporation top-offs it's a booger trying to collect 20 gal. each week) thanks all...tobin
