NOT SURE YET LOOKING TO GET SOME 175MH WITH 48PC ACTINIC BLUES, i think they should be alright.
And I have the clams under the pc's and they are doing really well...opening like crazy very colorfull but indeed would be much better under halides.
I dont want to get a strong halides because i dont want to cause heat problems on my tank.....
Grumpy: The filter/skimmer that you have does the skimmer works well for you?? and did you use the regular pump it came with or you changed.....because it looks better without the pump from the skimmer showing on the tank and I dont want to make a sump for it...

Jhebi,
175 MHs plus PCs on a 20G? Would that be a barbecue? I like the coralife clamp on MHs (150 W I think for 263). Are there any 175 Clamp ons that you know of? As far as the filter skimmer deal. I just drilled the top of the collection box which sits on top of the filter and ran a separate $9 pump. It is much quieter that way and more frothing. I did put up a thread to ask how you know if your skimmer is working? I get about 1-2 ozs a day out of mine. Maybe a little more?

I ended up going with a 20 extra tall. After reading your posts I am going to try the Skilter with an air pump. Should I go for a 10 or 20 gallon rated pump?

Hey Fishmamma, I went with a dinky pump, so it must be for a 10 g max. I would start there and go up if you have to. I just don't think you want to over do it because a big pump would probably froth too much and waste water? In a 20 g, standard 5 gallon water changes monthly or so, probably make a protein skimmer not a must. I have been monitoring all parameters of my water and it seems that the skilter is getting the job done. I almost cringe when the LFS says my water is perfect......it always leads to new coral.

I chickened out. :hilarious I keep reading so many bad reviews on this thing, but I have come across a few positive ones with modifications performed. I may wait and save up for a BakPak 2R or another Aqua C Remora. I know a skimmer may not be a necessity but I am a big fan of skimmers, especially on small reef tanks.
