Hi All,
I swung by my LFS today only get some salt water, and check out what's on sale for Black Friday. Low and behold, this beautiful Madusa Worm was hanging out in one of the tanks. I couldn't pass it up specially since he was marked down 50%. By far one of the coolest additions.

Enjoy.
Sorry for posting this twice. I meant to post this in the inverts forum, but I can't figure out how to delete the post over here. Maybe on of the Mods can help me out.

Your critter is really cool looking, I googled the name Medusa worm to get some info. None of the pictures looks like that critter and they don’t have that bright color.

It may or may not be known, but just for clarification, this is not a worm, but a sea cucumber that for some reason has the common name of medusa worm. It, like many sand sifter cukes, tends to mop the substrate for detritus etc. In smaller systems, they may starve.
Rob Toonen wrote some excellent articles on them. I suggest googling "Rob Toonen Medusa Worm"
(I've combined the threads, BTW)

LFS in my area uses them to clean the tanks the service. Put them in leave them for a while, then take them out for the next clean up job. Great detritus eaters.

Thank you all for the compliments, and all the great information. I really appreciate it. As far as cost, he ran me $18 since he was on sale.
Update: So far so good. I had a little scare this morning when I woke up and saw what looked like some pieces of the worm on one of my power heads, and my water was a little cloudy. I could not find the worm anywhere. Talk about a tense moment. I tested my water before and after a 15% water change, and all tests were good. All my fish are acting a little sluggish, but all have made an appearance and ate some food this morning. All corals look as good as ever. I am however missing one of my snails. I think one of my hermit crabs decided that he needed a new shell more then my snail. I believe that was what I saw on my power head. Poor Snail. Otherwise, everything else is doing well, and I did find the Medusa Worm hiding in my rocks.

Well, I thought I would share my experience so far with this worm. Unfortunately my thought that a snail bought the farm last night was not correct. All snails accounted for.
However, there was some flesh on one power head this morning, and I finally figured out what it was from. The pictures below do a better job of telling the story, but I will say this: Apparently Medusa Worms can take quite a blow and still keep on kicking. When I got this worm yesterday, he was over a foot long. Now he is less then two inches long. I'm not sure what happend, wether it was attacked, or got into a fight with the power head, he is still alive. Just alot shorter now.

I still haven't figured out where the rest of the worm went. There wasn't enough mixed up in the power head to account for the missing body. Oh well, the head is still alive, and I'm sure I will find the rest of it eventually.
I have been running carbon since last night, and did a 15% water change this morning, and so far I haven't lost any of my other critters. All fish, inverts, and corals are accounted for.
Just thought I would share.

Do you have sponge prefilters over your powerhead intakes? Definitely warranted with something like that guy :(
