Ok iam looking for some info regarding shrimp and iodine. Do they need it added to the tank to molt properly? I have a 75 gal fowlr. I do 10% water changes weekly using instant ocean salt mix. I had 3 peppermint shrimp last about a month then died w o molting. That was a month ago. I'd like to get cleaner shrimp but iam worried do they need iodine in the tank? Thank you in advance for your help.

I know someone more qualified than I will chime in here, but when in doubt. Don't add what you don't test for. Do you have an Iodine testing kit?

I have two large skunk cleaner shrimp that have been in my setup for a year and a half. I have never dosed iodine and they molt about once a month.
Plus, Bang Guy said No. So... I would not dose iodine.

I think the myth came about due to the fact that an overdose of Iodine will stress a Shrimp enough to force it to molt.
Kinda like how a really bad sunburn will force a human to shed skin.

Hi....I don't have to bother with the iodine question ... Never dose what you have not tested for, and regular water changes will replenish whatever is depleted in the water.
As for the cleaner thing. A "cleaner" shrimp will pick off parasites like ich out of the gills of a fish. (they can NOT clear a tank if it is infested with the parasite) they will set up little cleaning stations, and fish will go to them because it must feel good and they like it. They (like all shrimp) will also eat the left over food that falls into the rock, thus helping in keeping the tank clean.
Cleaner shrimp are clowns and fun to watch, they are not shy like other shrimp and can be seen regularly. I put a scarlet fire shrimp in my tank and I never seen it, after a year or so I assumed it was dead. When I broke down the reef to turn it into a cold water seahorse tank...there he was, and it was huge. I have peppermint shrimp now, and once in a while I will spot one and I often only see the shed skin.

Just an FYI for you Flower, both Fire Shrimp and Peppermint Shrimp are species of Cleaner Shrimp. They are both nocturnal by nature but can be trained to come out during the day by hand feeding them.

LOL...That's why I said..." like all shrimp". However the skunk cleaner shrimp you can see out all the time. I know the shrimp roam at night, I can see them with the moonlights...they are all over the tank. My fire shrimp I never seen, not even with moonlights....I thought it was dead.
