Shrimp Question??

Every shrimp that I get disapears the first night, anyone have any ideas? I have 1 clown, 1 tang, 1 foxface, 1 pin cushion, and hermit crabs and a surpent star! I was wondering if the surpent star is eating them??? LFS said that it should not be, but if it is it is gone cause it never comes out at all... If anyone is interested in purchasing let me know... well, if the serpent star is big enough it could certainly snack on them, or they could be hiding in the rockwork, depends on what kind of shrimp they are, have you tried peeking in there with a flashlight at night, or are they definitely gone?

I bought about 6 peppermint shrimp 6 months ago, saw them for the first week, then all of a sudden they vanished. I woke up the other night, glanced in my fish tank, and saw my shrimp for the first time in 6 months! Do you have live rock they could be hiding in?

Sure, your serpent star could be eating your shrimp. But my guess is that they're hiding in your rockwork.
My tank isn't very big and I don't have a lot of live rock, so I can account for all of my livestock just by looking for a few minutes max. My friend's tank has tons of live rock, and sometimes you'll go for months without seeing a certain fish/shrimp/you get the idea.
If you haven't already, shine a flashlight in there at night like organism said. I won't be surprised if you find some of your missing livestock. :)

Shrimp are the worst about hiding most of the time. The only shrimp I've had that is out all the time is my big female coral banded and my skunk cleaners. I have a 10g tank with a purple coral banded and a peppermint and I rarely see either of them. I put 8 peppermints in my 36g and saw one the other day. i know they are in there because my aptasia went away like I put them in there to do. Brittle stars are much worse about eating shrimp than serpents because they can hold on to the animal better.
