Ok so i just set my new 75 gallon with a 30 galloon sump up. I added a single uncooked and unPeeled shrimp to my water. Now my question is should i have peeled the shrimp first? Also how long should the little guy stay in the tank for.

Measure ammonium daily - when it gets to 1.0 remove the shrimp and wait for the ammonium levels to drop.

I took mine out when it started to disintegrate (ok, maybe waited too long). My ammonia when I took him out was around .5 but it spiked the next day. I didn't peel mine either, couldn't see a reason.

its not an exact science. Just toss it in and then pull it out in a few days.
There really isnt an actual number set in stone for letting it reach before removal.
.25 will work, .5 will work. Doesnt really matter. All you want is so introduce something that is biologically breaking down and starting the life cycle for benificial bacteria.
I think the above posters already nailed it but just wanted to toss in the info about the waiting game.
