if you want to use shrimp to cycle your tank how many , and for how long ,
I have a new 150g fish only tank with live rock, live sand

can I put the shrimp in chesse cloth so it will not float around, or dose it need to float
around to spread the bacteria :jumping:

doesn't need to float around, and it doesn't spread bacteria. It'll break down and introduce ammonia to the tank. That'll kick off your cycle. So using it in a cheese cloth would be ok.

let me ask you this the lfs deliverd my new tank that was a 150g 2 day ago
I had a 55g tank that was up for a year with about 80lb of live rock
when they set up my new tank they put the live rock in and the water from
my old tank, what do you think about that good or bad ?

That's fine. Personally I'd avoid the shrimp method but it will eventually cycle your tank.

As long as you didn't have any contaminents in you other tank, it should be a good thing. Your live rock and water should have a lot of the beneficial bateria that a new tank does not have till it cycles.

If it's already established LR, will it cycle? probably not... When you add 80lbs of fully cured LR, you may not even need a cycle. The cycle is just to establish aerobic bacteria, but your 80lbs of LR is already full of it. I'd let it sit for a few weeks to allow the bacteria to spread to your sand, and then add a small fish to see if you get a spike. that's what i would do anyway...
