i just have 3 peppermints right now, i want a coral banded shrimp (gold preferably). Are there any downsides to these, i know peppermints like to have more than one-- should i buy 2?? And would i be able to get a fire shrimp eventually, or would that be too many shrimp in a 58??

not too many, and the fire should be fine too, BUT the cbs could be a problem. Not because of the number but because of their aggressiveness. They may attack the other shrimp and probably would.

i once had a coral banded shrimp and it did fine with my peppermint shrimp in a 55 gallon reef. If it did live longer, it probably would have tried to attack my peppermint shrimp. If you decide to get any type of coral banded shrimp, make sure that they are a mated female, male pair because they will fight until death otherwise. At a LFS, a pair were trying to kill eachother through a glass separater.
