You're gonna give Maxalmon a run for his money for his money in photography. Nice job!

thank you for the kind words :) Im really just learning. I think I do worse messing with the camera than just leaving it on AUTO.

BTW im shooting a canon rebel xt with 18-55 lens

the husband agreed tonight that I could get the solana system for Xmas, so I kill keep this thread going until the solana is in play and then we will have a whole thread on the transformation into the new tank (should be quite interesting lol)

Tank looks very good. You have a lot of stuff in that little 24 gal, but I must say that it is working for you. Amazing.

thank you everyone. I have to say that I enjoy my nano more than I enjoyed my 44g. I was going to get a larger tank and decided to go smaller instead (thats how I ended up with the 24g AP). I absolutely love nanos!

Yes theres a lot of livestock in there. Im actually a little uncomfortable with having 4 fish. I usually only keep one, but somehow ended up with 4. The clown just started hosting the anemone today! so at least he is pretty much secluded to his little happy 'hut' and the mandarins eat prepared.. so that leaves the firefish who is pretty shy. At first glance you dont really even see the fish in there, but I will be feeling better once I upgrade to the solana (10 more gallons than what I have now) this xmas. If anything, I may give up the firefish.
I enjoy the corals more than the fish generally, so I love to pack them in there. Nothing seems to hurt the other, however that little acan frag is DEADly if anything gets within 'sweeper' range. It has already melted a few candycanes that fell, and ended up on top of it.
More pics to come soon, I just did a water change so its all foggy but I want to post pics of the nem and the clown!
Jess

PS, the anemone is a 4-5" LTA I got in late June of this year. It was obviously bleached... bad.
Here is a pic when I got it, my computer says the pic was taken 7/5/08. It has begun to color up.. slowly of course, but there are definitely more color on the disc and creeping onto the tentacles. There is even a tinge of orange. Its kinda hard to photograph him where he is now, but Ill get a pic :)
Here is what the LTA looked like 3 mos ago..

ok heres the anemone now, with the clown.. you can definitely see it has colored up a bit in the last 3 mos.

my derasa has arrived! He was packed well, and seems to be in good health (as always.. from the certain 'den' he came from).
To my suprise he is definitely like 4.5" but hes another like 3" WIDE. He is awesome!
Hes opening up as we speak, he has been in the tank about 10-15min. He responded quickly when I repositioned the lighting above him (he closed quickly at the sign of movement, but then reopened) one of my hermits was investigating and the clam got scared and 'clack' closed really quick. At least he isnt on the 'slow' side? lol
This is my second clam. My first clam was a crocea (bad choice anyway.. ) and I had a small mantis in my tank who ate him inside-out while I was on vacation earlier in the year. My husband sent me a pic of the mantis all the way through the foot! It was terrible.
Now, no more mantis, and we are ready for the clam. He is under 150w halide on my 24g AP.
Heres him 15 min in my tank. I assume he will open more as he gets more comfortable.

Your tank looks fantastic - I have 2 questions tho. I have a 40 set up as a reef under 6 39 watt T5's (3 10,000 K, 2 Actinic, and a 5,000 K I think) . I was looking into getting a clam and also a manderin for the tank. Do you know if clams can survive without Halides and also how did you get your manderins to eat prepared foods?

I am not a clam expert, or even a noob.. im a super noob. I have heard of people keeping clams under alternative lighting but its sort of hit or miss. I know the derasa and squamosa have lesser lighting requirements. I definitely wouldnt get a maxima or crocea without halides, but thats just my opinion Ive formed from the research I have done. I think there is a clam expert on this board... candycane I think is the name.. message this person for more details.
I pick the mandarins according to how they act in the LFS and how long they have been in the LFS. The ones I have now I bought about 2 mos ago and they had been in the LFS for about 6 weeks eating live brine and live bloodworms. I waited for about 4-6 months before I found the mandarins I wanted. I made the owner feed them in front of me and I chose the ones that had the biggest appetite. I brought home live brine and live bloodworms. I have never had my mandarins turn down frozen bloodworms, but they seem to figure out that the mysis arent alive so it takes longer to trick them. Its really a hit or miss process. Im working towards getting them to eat pellets but we have some learning to do before I get that far. Starting off with a mandarin that A) eats in the store in front of you, and B) has been in the store for a long time is a good start IMO. If you start off with a good mandarin that seems to be willing to eat other than just pods you have a better chance for long term survival. some mandarins just wont eat prepared foods. My female is a little less willing to eat frozen/prepared than my male, each mandarin is its own special snowflake

you can always keep him in a breeder net until you get him to eat... Ive never done it, but my tank is also only 24g so its like its own breeder net lol

I feel like its a new baby in the house or something haha! I tiptoe into the office and peer into the tank from like 8 feet away so my movement doesnt scare him. Im such a dork.
More pics soon~
Thanks everyone
