I just bought a emperor angel a week ago and noticed little white spots on his fins, and some discoloration above his eyes, like patches of discoloration.
they arent neccessarily white spots like marine velvet, but more of a discoloration. the white spots on the fins look like ick.
i noticed it on my trigger yesterday, and treated the tank with malachite green. All of his spots are gone now, but like i said its on the emperor now.
what do you guys make of this.
ps i have a 75g tank, water parameters are within acceptable range. sg is 1.022
the little guy is eating and responding well. i think i caught this reall soon. help me out!

I would NOT put malachite green into my display tank!!!!!! IMO
The discoloration is from secondary bacterial infection, like a white haze over their eyes. What else do you have in that tank? I hope there isn't any inverts or live rock, malachite green WILL kill'em. It'll mess up your biological filters too, plus if you have live sand, it'll kill that too. I would run a carbon filter to get that stuffs out, plus doing a 20-25% water change. Only treat them in a QT tank, you didn't QT that new fish!! I would start by feeding garlic foods like formula 2. I've had GREAT luck getting rid of ich by just feeding formula 2. Ich usually disappears within 2 weeks of treatment with formula 2 when I did it. But do look into the disease section, I have great luck doing what I'm doing, but it may not work for you, but it is a suggestion. You may want to look into doing hypo, but do it in a QT tank instead of your display tank. Another thing, what you mean by water parameter are within acceptable range, need readings of Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Alkaline, Salinity, and PH. Did you acclimate your new fish? Let us know! :happyfish

You can soak the food in the juice that you extract from garlic, then feed it. Not the garlic itself.... :happyfish
