well i have lost 3 different heads off of my frogspawn and i dont know why. i notice that one died and then the next one in line and now the next one to it is dying. i just broke off the now dying head in an attempt to stop the "chain". what else can i do. my once big and beautiful spawn is now down to like 6 heads and i would like to save it. all levels are acceptable so what gives?

Please post the actual water parameters. What all is in your tank, fish, corals, inverts, etc? How old is the tank, and what is the setup like, including, filtration, lighting, and flow? How long have you had the coral? Is it possible to post a photo?

i will take all new readings later, must go to work now. heres a thread on my tank https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/287797/tanks-progress-pics the latest pics are the most recent and thats whats in my tank right now. i havent added a thing in months!
from what i have read i believe that my problem is related to a brown sludge that can take over a coral if left on the actual piece so thats why i broke off the latest head to have it on there so maybe i can stop this madness from taking over the tank.
btw the frogspawn in the last pic on the thread link is the coral in need......bottom right corner.

nothing, i even have auto top off so that the salinity stays constant.
what would cause the chain reaction to occur? could a fish or invert picking at it start the problem?
any info would be appreciated!

With my frog spawn, one time I noticed one of my conchs on it and the next day one of its heads died. So...maybe something picking at it is the reason.

whatever the reason i think i stopped the dying chain by breaking off the last dying head. that really sucks that i didnt just break off the first dying head if that really stopped the chain effect. oh well.

yes, they started to shrink first and the last thing they did before they were completely gone was that they turned into the brown slime! do you recognize this?

its an infection they get that ends up getting the other heads infected. usually happens if the tissue was cut open by something or if the flow was too strong and ripped the tissue. you did the right thing by breaking off the remainder, otherwise it would have been gone as well

the frogspawn is now great. other than the 3 heads gone. i have moved it into a lower flow section and it looks like it will be ok. i can barely tell that the heads are gone because they are positioned in the back and the remaining heads cover up the white skeletons that were left behind.

i broke off the current dying head first. that was the thing that saved the frogspawn i think.
