i have a large maroon clownfish that i got 2 weeks ago to pair up with a very small one. anyway the pairing went great and they have been happly living together for the duration. today when i fed my fish my large clown did not have the same reaction to the food as usual. in fact i am not sure that he ate at all. usualy he atacks the food and barely lets anyone else get any. yesterday he ate fine. also today i noticed a little white stringy thing comming out of his left side above his side fin. it is definately not ick it is like 2-3 MM long and flows in the water a little when he swims. my camera sucks so i will try to get a good picture when my friend can bring his over.
i just tested my water today and the readings are the following:
PH-8.2
Amonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-0
Please help
Peter

sounds like a parasite. Try a freshwater dip for 5 min (temp and pH balanced of course) and see how that goes. If that fails, you may need to QT and treat.

Do not do a FW dip. That's way too stressful for an already stressed fish. Do you have a QT setup? Does the white stringy stuff look like shedding skin at all?
