75 gallon tank
live rock
1 naso tang
1 powder blue tang
1 blue face angel
2 neon gobies
Hey everyone. I just acquired a blue face angel and a powder blue from a friends tank. I did not quarantine the fish(which I do for all my store bought fish) because i figured that they were disease free in my friends tank so i did not need to. I put them in my 75 gallon which is disease free. I noticed on the 2nd day that the powder tang had ich. How is this possible? Also i have noticed that the blue face powder has patches of discoloration on face and body. There are no spots or any type of velvet on it just looks like dulling of color in certain spots. Both fish are eating very well. The powder tang is scratching on gravel every now and then and the blue face angel does not seem to have any scratching or change in behavior. Every now and then it does this strange wiggle. I bought a 2 neon gobies and placed them in the tank to hopefully help with the ich infection. They have been doing a good job and have set up cleaning stations which all the fish love to go to.
My question are as follows: Do I need to quarantine the powder blue? The neon gobies have been cleaning the ich off of it and I have a uv sterilizer running on the tank. My other tang has not acquired the infection. I would rather not further stress the fish by trying to catch it and place it in quarantine if the infection will clear.
Second question- What is going on with this blue face angel? does it have an infection? If so how do I treat it. Any help would be appreciated.

shew... i've had the same thing, ok i think you should leave the fish in the tank the way it is. If you try to take them out and quarentine it'll just stress them more and that'll do them no good. Good call. The dulling could be a sign of stress. Unless its specifically on the lateral line i wouldn't worry much hey.

how big is the blueface, and what do you feed it? these animals get to be over 18" and require a minimum of 150g tank, and even then it might be too cramped depending on the size and stock list. they also require a demanding mixed diet. ant of these factors alone, or in addition to the move (from what size tank?) could cause stress wich could cause some temporary discoloring.

The blue face is is about 5 inches. It was originally in a 55 gallon tank which in my opinion was way overstock( large lion, powder blue, large yellow tang, large cinnamon clown, humma trigger, a small crab). I am feeding it emeral entree herbiorve cubes( which the previous ownder did), also formula two flakes, I also feed them dry sea weed and some other spirulina cubes( i forget name). The concerning thing with the blue face is the discoloration is in spots. I can understand if a fish is stress its discoloration is usually over the entire body but it seems to be in spots on face and body.

that description of the 55g is just downright scary....
they may even need to eat sponge in their diet. stress discoloration i dont think usually is all over the body, but blotchy and focused around some common spots like the mouth, the pec fins - not sure...
if its particularly random blotches on say, the said of the body, then it could be a bacterial infection.

I was suspecting a bacterial infection however the fish does not seem to be rubbing against any thing in tank or exhibiting any distress. It is eating great. For now I am just trying to observe it hopefully it will get better. If not then I will quarantine it. I dont want to stress it out by moving if I dont have too.

post a pic for some people to give you better advice on what it may be. you may need to do formalin dips

That angel really shouldnt be in anything less than a 180 to be perfectly honest with you, no wonder he's stressed.
How large are the tangs? Those tangs are very active swimmers, and I personally dont believe that 75 gallons is enough for them depending on the dimensions.

IMO that is stress discoloration it might get slightly better being in a 75, but likely not much. perhaps dose with vitamin C ? the real solutions is a bigger tank
