Sickly Foxface

Hi all,
I was at my LFS and saw a foxface swimming around, looking very skinny and slightly discolored. He still seemed to be alert and swam fine so I thoguht why not try to save him. The only thing stopping me was the $35 bucks they wanted for him. After talking to the manager and finding the foxface has been in his 5G cube for about a months I talked him down to $10 for him. He's currently in a 29G quar. tank He's been in there since last night. My questions are:
1) he hasn't eaten anything yet, I've tried veggies, my home mix of seafood and flakefood. He's just ignored it all? he might be pecking on the algea growing on the glass but I'm not sure. Is it still due to him still getting use to his surroundings or should I be more concerned?
2) he also turned a white and black color on taking him home. I read this is due to stress so I wasn't to concerned, however as of now his face looks like a typical foxface but his body is half yellow and the top half being brownish black? Is he still stressing out or could this be due to mal nutruition? Any other thoughts would also be appreciated. As of now he's very active, swimming back and forth but I have no experience with sick fish so any advice would be great. I hope he pulls through b/c I have a nice big 110G ready if he makes it:joy: Thanks all.

I know I am going to hear it for even saying this but if it ws my fish i would defenilty mediacte the fish with meracyn-2. The stuff will get thie fish to eat and make it healthy once again.

Thanks for the advice Eric. The foxface is still brownish on his top half but he is definatly eating the algea grawing on my tank. He still doesnt seem interested in other food types including algea sheets? Any other thoughts on this?

I really have no idea so whatever advice i can give you would be just what I can do. I would dose the tank with meracyn-2. It is very safe for the fish. I would also supplement your food with a garlic supplement. You can also try feeding different varities of food. Maybe it doesnt have a taste for what you are feeding him?? :notsure:
