Here's wher I'm at... just about to glue my baffles. I need to cut 3 holes at 3/4" each in 1/8" acrylic. I tried 2 different hole saws and even drill bits and was pretty unsuccessful. I am pretty skilled with a dremel and it worked like a champ. However, I'm wondering if instead of 3 holes, can I cut out one rectangle at the same height of the holes extending it almost to both sides?
I'm thinking this would control the flow over my sand in the fuge? What do you think?

Quick rule of thumb: A round hole is approximately 78% of the same dimension square hole when it comes to flow.

this is a rectangular hole in a diy sump made from sterlite containers to give you a visual. the flow spreads out over the hole and works well for me. You have to figure your acrylic is much thicker and more durable than the thin plastic containers I'm using, so it probably would work well as long as the hole is not to wide, extending to far to either edge. the yellowish stuff is sponges and the hole extends a bit behind them as well.
