Well the power went out in my house.....and as I sit here all alone....I realize just how quiet it is w/o all the fish tanks on
kinda eerie in a way

Our place gets pretty spooky when everything shuts off...it's so obvious, the silence usually wakes us up if it happens while we're in bed.

Yeah, when the power cuts off in the middle of the night I jump outta bed and check on the tank. Just instincts.
I think it's weird to visit someone's home and NOT hear trickling water. Lol.

LOL...I'm with you Snake and Saxman...it is not supposed to be quiet...kind of like little children, when the noise stops something is wrong.
I wake up and instantly go and look at the tanks. I have also experienced sitting in my living room watching TV and the tank started making a different sound to the water flow....I turned off the TV sound and listened. My mother asked whats wrong? I told her something was wrong with the tank...sure enough the return hose had come loose from the pump (zip ties + my weak hands fault) , so while water made noise it wasn't the right noise.... so it isn't just the silence we grow sensitive to.

Lol. Your tellin me!
I was constantly listening for drips and trickles when I had a fish store. Even then, the inevitable flood always happened.
When I go somewhere that has a saltwater tank, I like to point out all the flaws to my wife. She just sits there and stares at me till I quit talking. Lol!
