Since when does "free shipping" cost $15.98??

I'm sorry, I might ruffle a few fins, but...
I finally broke down and ordered a golden butterfly for $99.99 with "free shipping" on this site.
When I go to checkout, there are "additional costs" of $15.98
I cancelled the order.
IMO, If you are going to advertise "free shipping", make sure the shipping is FREE.

thay say its free, and i guess its kinda free, but they charge for like handiling and that stuff, so its kinda a scam

I was going to order from here also. But you have to order $79.00 worth of live stock. That would be too many fish to add to the tank at once. I only wanted a couple of cheapo small gobies, so I didn't place the order either. I'd have to order 4 or 5 fish to hit the mark... and from what I understand you can't add that many all at once...

LOL, they gotta get you somehow.
But at $15, thats not bad compared to some others shipping prices.

I agree.
My reasons to shop here:
"Scam" or not, this site has the cheapest shipping of any place I've ever seen online for Fed Ex Priority Overnight. Most other sites charge 30+ dollars + the fuel charge + box fee + handling or a similar combination.
79 dollars... I've never had an order here that was less than $150, so it's always easy for me to hit the mark. Of course, I have multiple tanks, two of which are reefs so corals help get you to the minimum quicker. Plus, if you spend enough money on this site, they start giving you free stuff with every order.
Finally, the quality of animals from this site is so much better than any LFS I have near me... I'd have to pay 15 dollars in GAS to drive to any others. Every fish I've ever received has been in perfect health and a beautiful specimen. When you figure that you can get a Goby on this site for 15 bucks that would be 40 locally, it really makes sense.
Of course, the availability of corals (overall, not just the last month) is pretty irksome sometimes.

I agree with the above. SWF's quality is superb and compared to other sites, the $15 is WAY cheaper. I also don't have a problem getting to the $79. I just replenish my cleanup crews.
BTW, the stock is supposed to start picking up on here now that it's spring. :happyfish

You think I'll see corals in the next couple weeks? I have a lot of family coming to town and I'd like to do a new round of corals for my reefs, plus I just switched to MH so I have more options...

IDK, I just read on here a few days ago where one of the mods was saying that the stock should be picking up real soon.

the money is not for shipping, it's for packing. request that they send the fish to you without a styrofoam box and heat pack and maybe they'll waive the fee. then, since you live in Wisconsin, the fish will arrive to you frozen in a block of saltwater ice, and you won't have any complaints.
seriously, I have searched far and wide online for fish (freshwater mostly) and the cheapest rate aside from this site is $39. one site wanted $95 shipping for $60 worth of fish. so $10 or $15 box fee isn't anything to complain about, imo.

Yeah, Ill pay the $15 for $80 worth of fish... Besides, like it was said before their quality is great, not to mention their prices are pretty competitive.

LOL, I knew the post would ruffle a few fins....

BTW, the extra fees are not for the packaging.
I realize that this is one of the cheaper shipping charges, but call me silly, when you advertise "free shipping", it should mean, totally free shipping, not shipping with service charges and fuel charges.
It just really bugged me, I was ready to plop down $100 for a fish with free shipping only to find out that shipping costs $15.98....
Ive already gotten over it

Yes, the $9.99 IS for box fee, as it clearly says. I have ordered from this site a number of times, and the shipments are packaged very well.
if you go to the fish page (where you pick fish from), there is a banner up top that clearly says: "free shipping on all live orders over $79.99. *all orders subject to $9.99 surcharge." so why did you even get to the checkout point when this banner is clearly posted before hand? I have no idea what the $5 fuel charge is about, but the $9.99 IS for box, styrofoam box, and heat pads.

Well, I don't want to argue, lol....

But on the checkout page it said....shipping, packaging...free...$0.00, then it said surcharge $9.99, and fuel charge $5.99.....

again, refer to the banner that is clearly posted before you place an order. they said shipping is free, and it is free. that don't say that boxing and handling is free, and it's not...it's a very small fee.

Well then ..... SHIPPING IS FREE THEN ISN'T IT???? LOL You have to pay for a SURCHARGE....NOT SHIPPING........ and cause of gas prices (It is shipping companies charges....Not SWF.com's) and a FUEL CHARGE....... NOT SHIPPING
