I just got a Singapore angel and put it in my tank with my purple tang. My purple tank is kick the *#*#*#* out off it. My new angel just hides in a rock all day now, while my purple tang seems like he's looking for him get his ass even more. The purple tang doesn't bother anyone else except for the new angel. Will this eventually calm down or do i need to send someone back.
IT's a 70 gal tank with 50lbs of LV.

wow i just saw a singapoer the other day...beeeeeautifull fish. how did you introduce him to the tank? how long have you had him in there? i would turn off the lights for a while. i dont see why the tange would go after a angel. if you have another tank and it cont. i would take the tang out for a while. maybe a few days (maybe longer) then put him back in there. or maybe move some rock around. but surely turn the lights off in this case for a whole day maybe 2 if needed. howeer keep a close watch on them. for some reason tangs can be really nasty if they want to be. good luck

I have read that tangs like to be kept in schools of at least 5, and if solitary, will sometimes fight with other species. It is also thought that a fish that is in a tank for some time sets up its territory. Once a new fish comes in, there is no space for him, and he is chased around the tank. One possible solution is to change the landscape in the tank a bit, which will basically remove all teritorries. Then all fish (inc. the new one) will have an equal chance at establishing territories. Good luck.

Why do u always talk about fish outgrowing tanks!!!!!!!! Let people enjoy their fish! EVERY post I read that you write is you talking about how terrible it is to have a tang in a 55 or an angel in a 55 or 75!!! My goodness, please stop harassing people on this matter! I wonder if you just copy and paste the same paragraph for EVERY post! You're reminding me of my grandfather...just ramblin' on about the same thing over and over again! (I don't mean to call you old, I love my grandfather, but he can get kinda obnoxious!) Anyways...I don't want to be bustin' ur balls here but I've been reading so many posts by you always (for lack of a better word) yelling at people to get a larger tank or get rid of their tang or Angel. I understand they might have to learn the hard way, but could you please talk about something else.

You don't even know the size of the fish but u still have to comment on it!!! Please just let people enjoy their tanks and then offer advice on thier question or problem. Maybe you could send people private messages to let them know that they are going to be killing fish for having them in such a small tank. Again, I apologize for seeming to come down so hard...I'm saying this and smiling...I'm not yelling at you at all...It's just a lot of posts are you saying the same kinda obnoxious sentence. Thank you...I'll stop babbling now :)

I found the following information regarding this species (the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs are of particular note here)...
<BEGIN EXERPT from ***********.com>
The Singapore Angelfish, also known as the Vermiculated Angelfish, has been likened to a butterflyfish in body structure. Blue lips and a yellow nose abruptly change to a black vertical band over the eyes, resembling a mask. The mask is bordered with another thin vertical band of yellow, followed by a wider vertical band of white with the body being primarily black. Dorsal and anal fins are outlined in brilliant sapphire-blue and the caudal fin is usually yellow but may be gray.
The Singapore Angelfish can be challenging to keep. Some acclimate well, while others hide constantly and do not eat. Providing a quietly-located aquarium with non-aggressive tank mates and plenty of hiding places may help.
A minimum of a 55 gallon tank or larger provided with live rock for grazing will also help provide an optimal environment. The Singapore Angelfish is prone to nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles. It will also graze on microalgae, filamentous algae, and diatoms. The diet should also consist of mysid or finely shaved frozen shrimp, and other meaty items.
<END EXERPT>
Hope this is helpful.

Back to the original question:
Your Singapore is close enough to the coloration of the Purple (in the Pruple Tangs opinion) to garnish it's rath. I would recommend you lose one or the other tank mate and avoid the potential stress. I tired to stop my fish from fighting and it only works if the fish are willing and purple tangs sometimes are not.

Thanks for the great replys. As of today they both look great. I've changed the rock formations and still the purple tang knows it's the boss. The singapore angel has found a nice hole where he hides and comes out sometimes. He's eating well and not scared to come out when food is present. Does anyone think the fighting will ever stop.
