Siphon Break

That's too bad what happened. But we all go through those type of problems. I had the same problem at first with my hang on overflow. I have the return line split to a spray bar that puts flow across the bottom and about a third down in my 55. I tested the backflow to see just how far it would drain back into my wet/dry. Even though I had drilled a hole just below the water line the power of the siphon was still able to suck water back into the W/D. It was not much coming through but it was enough that over time it would overflow my W/D. Since my tank sits about 5 feet above the W/D it must create a much more powerful siphon action. I have since drilled another hole on the backside and that has stopped the problem. If you keep your tank high you would might want to put another hole just in case or the valves. But always check your holes when you do a water change they might get clogged up. Then you are back to a flooded carpet.
