Was wondering if there is a site similar to this, where I can compare the different types of fishes from saltwater and fresh water...also I plan on getting a 24 gallon aquapod, how many fish does anyone recommend being in it...without over crowding it? Thanks

If it's a 24 gallon freshwater about 1 inch of fish per gallon of water depending on filteration. It's best not to exceed this for extended periods of time as it stresses the fish. Add plants if you do want to exceed it as they will help in the nitogen cycle, but require very good lighting to keep them alive. Choose wisley.

Thank you, now I have an idea of how many fish I could possibly have. Now comes the hard part of narrow it down to which I like and will be ok together haha

you can have a few more fish than a clown pair in a 24 gallon but not a whole lot more (the 12g version probably could only do a clown pair). perhaps one of two small gobies as well.

The inch per gallon for fresh & the inch per gallons for salt is garbage. Do not use it, it dpepends on so much more than that.
Freshwater you could fit a pretty good bit of small community type fish.
Saltwater you couldn't do as much, but certainley more than just a couple of clowns. Maybe 2 clowns, firefish, & a small goby or blenny.

Actually, it also depends on the fish as with salt, but not as much so as with salt. One inch per gallon is considered the "rule of thumb" for freshwater fish, however it is to include the adult size of the fish. Any freshwater questions you may have, post them in the "Aquarium" forum. Threads get lost quickly in the "new hobbiest" forum,

i to dont think the rules of thumb are all that great. i think alot of it depends on ur filtration and how mucch ls and lr u have in ur tank. i have 15 lb of lr and 20 lbs of ls and a HOB filter rated for a 100 tank. i also just installed a proskimmer 65. i have a pair of clowns a wheeler goby x 2 3 emeralds 5 snails and 2 scarlet cleaners i have 0 trates 0 trites 0 amionia ph 8.3 phos 0 and my tank water in nice and clean if ur gonna add more fish than the "rule of thumb" make sure u got the filtration to handle it.

Not trying to argue, but most freshwater hobbyists would totally disagree & I do too. It is totally outdated, & most hobbyists that know what they're doing do not use it or recommend it.

What exactly do you disagree with? I stated that it depends on the adult size of the fish. I don't want to argue either, but please tell me what you disagree about.

I just disagree with the 1" per gallon as rule of thumb. Whther the adult size or not. One thing is most of the time you can keep more than 1" / 1 Ga. It depends on the fish itself, take cichlids for instnace very messy fish that produce a lot of waste. So you probally would have to go under 1" / 1 GA. On the other hand less take small not as messy fish, lets go with guppies & tetras. You could probally do more than 1" / 1 GA.
Also the matinence & filtration, you could have more inches of fish if you do water changes every week compared to every two weeks or once a month. A better filter is going to allow for more bio-load.
Aggression could be a key factor involved also. A more aggresive fish is going to need more gallons to an inch than a shy timid peacefull species.
I have a 20 gallon freshwater planted tank with about 28" of fish in there that includes, 10 different fish. I am able to do this because they are small non messy species. I do a 10-15 % water change every two weeks. My levels are all at zero all the time & have been since January. The fish are not squished & non of the experts of freshwater that I know through forums think so. It is best IMO to first off make sure regardless of size that it is recommended for X size of tank. Then you kind of have to go by heart & gut-feelings on how many more should go in there. Also ask others in the hobby what they think. Test your levels, are they good? Might could allow for a bit more increase in the bio-load. Do the fish seem squished in your honest opinon? These all play factors in the role of an amount of fish. Everyone that I know says don't go by the 1 inch per gallon rule. I hope this helps you see why I disagree with that. I may be young, but I do have over 10 years of experience in freshwater aquariums & comprehend things very easy. Actually I just started my first salt water tank ever after that many years. It's almost done cycling. :jumping:
