What size fuge for a 210?
Is there a general rule of thumb? Like x gallon fuge per x gallon display tank.
I was thinking like a 40 gallon sump/fuge?
Also would something like this work for a sump, what do you guys think?

Yea, bigger is better...the more extra total water volume you can add to the system is best and easier to mantain water quality. Some people have systems bigger than their displays....
That design IMO will omly work if ti is a large one and not much GPH thru it. You have no bubble reduceing baffles ect. and could be redisigned to give you more fuge area also.
The bigger a fuge is and if built right will alow you to run more water thu it but the water will move thru slower and give the skimmer and fuge time to do its job....Like pumping water thru a small pipe compared to a larger pipe with the same pump...same amount of water comes out but it moves a lot slower thru a bigger pipe....

Thanks Guys!
This is just a quick sketch, water would enter from top (LRR side) and return back to the main tank from the return pump end (r-side).

yep, thats a typical end to end style. You can make them as big as you can/want to. You can use submerged pumps and have the skimmer in the sump area as well. And depending on how much drain from power off they can hold a lot of water.

I do not use mesh or fiber or anything that will trap the pods or other zoo and phyto from getting to main tank via return, I wedge bioballs between my baffles to keep macro algea from flowing/growing thru...

Thanks Guys!
Nice pic coach!
I was thinking along the lines of what you have dogstar...I am thinking a 55 gallon tank and silicon the baffles in.
Coach's is really nice but i would like to try and keep everything in the sump, just personal pref.

What type of plants do you guys use in your fuge?
How deep of LS bed should i have in fuge?
Thanks Again! You guys rock!
I had been doing this for a while, had my tank setup in the early 90's and a storm took my tank out, i lost everything. Power was out for 3 days in the middle of winter and when i got back to my appartment my tank water was like 30'
My 55 went into storage for like 5 years and i pulled it back out like 6 months ago, I thought i knew what i was doing until i found this site.
Man have things changes in the last 5-6 years! I think it might even have been longer?

Just lay it out and make sure you can get the skimmer and its pump in the drain chamber if thats where you want it and also make sure you can service the skimmer, put it in or out and take the cup off ect. With out the cabinet being a problem. I had to put my skimmer in the fuge area because of the cabnet. Also make sure you can get the tank in the cabinet with out it being a problem. I put mine in from the side door I made on my stand.
Then make the pump chamber big enough for all the pumps and keep the baffles about 1.5 inch above floor and apart and the rest id fuge, should be good to go. I have 6 in. sand and use caularipa and chaeto. I like caularipa because it grows fast but you do have to trim it out often. I also put alot of rock rubble in the fuge and drain chambers.

forgot to ask about lighting for fuge...What type of lighting would i need for the fuge part?
I am guessing a normal strip light wont do?

I use a ' Lights of America ' brand outdoor fixture from HomeDepot. 65 watts 6500K PC. $40 w/ lamp.

That is one of the best pictures of a sump I've seen.
