Skilter Filter-good or bad

We are needing to get a skimmer for our new 29 gallon reef and saw this one. Anyone have any experience or hear anything, good or bad????

It's a low end skimmer. Hard to dial in and maintain adjustments. You'll hear more bad than good about them. Spend more for an Aqua C Remora. You won't regret it.

I had the 250 for about 6 months. It is very loud, needed constant readjusting, and did not work that well. I added an airstone to it but that only helped with the noise. I picked up a Prizm skimmer and it works a whole lot better and was not that much more when you factor in the airstones and airpump.

So is the prizm a filter & skimmer? if so what kind of filter media is used in it? If not what do you use as a filter?

I learned the hard way of buying cheap low end items.Ive had my 20 gallon tank since may of 2005,and my tank was a disaster.All my fish died in 2 weeks.I had a bio wheel filter and a skilter 250.It was awfull in my case nitrate factory which wasnt good being that im trying to keep inverts.In a month it rose to about 80 ppm(trate).I was ready to quit and break down the tank.I did a little research and heard of people had progression with an aquaclear filter and I bought it and it went down maybe .20 which was great.A week after it was rising again.I did some mods to it by building a HOB mini refuge and its working marvelous.my trates are at .5 and still coming down,Along with a Seaclone 100 working beautiful and a powerhead with a hydor rotator and kent reef carbon in the cartridge from the powerhead.
The meaning of this story is never go the low end way ,always aim for higher in this hobbie my friend b/c if not it will bite you know where, and your fish and friends will love you for it. Anyone agrees say I.LOL

This piece of equipment is a true audio assault piece of crap. May be worth purchasing if your in-laws are coming for a visit. Place it on a system in the room they will sleep in. Should shorten that visit by several days.

Red Sea Prisms, SKilters, Seaclones are all pretty well a joke unless you like to be constantly fiddling with them only to get mediocre results. You can spend big bucks for top names, or you can spend a reasonable amount of money for a coralife super skimmer that is a great skimmer, and does a super job.......A CSS 65 can be had for under $86 from online sources, and IMHO is much better than a Remora is, and certianly much quieter....

Im not a fan of remora or seaclones or red sea prizm but I tried them all and the seaclone was the best for me.I guess its what they say everyone has they're preference right... :thinking:

Now that's funny I'll have to remember that!!!!!!!!

A CSS 65 can be had for under $86 from online sources, and IMHO is much better than a Remora is, and certianly much quieter....

I think you'll get quite a bit of opinions on that reply and don't think the Coralife's are even in the same class as the Remora's

Hey Chipmaker how does the Coralife skimmer compare against a Deltec, H&S, Euro, ASM, Barrs', MRC and GEO skimmers???????? Again Coralife not in the same class
