Is it beneficial to have a skimmer when cycling a new tank?
th3third Member Jul 8, 2008 #2 I think it wont hurt because if you have live rock it might pull some stuff out. You dont really need it because it will go through the cycle anyway. My opinion would be to use because normally it takes a few weeks to break a skimmer in anyway.

peterpaul Member Jul 9, 2008 #3 I would use a skimmer as it will remove unnecessary waste from the tank. But don't forget water changes as this is crucial for cycling a new tank
