skimmer & bio balls?

Hello everyone, I have a ? I was surfing the web last night and I came across a picture of a tank that was set up, I think it was california & I was looking at how they had thier sump set up & in the pic it look like they had a NAUTILUS TE skimmer with some bio balls in it? Does it help the skimmer skim out more? or is there another reason for this? Thanx....

Do you mean the bioballs were inside the nautilus skimmer? I have that same skimmer in the sump if you put bioballs inside the chamber it would not skim.Maybe they are trying to use it as a DIY biofilter .This skimmer will not work if you put anything inside it.Some skimmers work with that concept but not the nautilus.LOL(do you remember the webpage you saw this pic. i would like to see what they did?)

ETSS skimmers use bioballs. The water is pumped down over them to seperate the foam. I am not sure of any other brands that use them. If you could see them in the picture then they werent' being used in the same way.

The reason I was asking is I also have the nautilus te skimmer I had thought this was some kind of trick to make it work better. I will look to see if I can find the site and I will let you know, thanks for the reply!!

I tried for months to get my TE to skim more,What I finally got to is install a valve at the end of your airline leading to the enductor.Close it some what until you get the water pressure built up to the collection chamber i went from little skim to about half cup per day of black junk.The water is just past the upper part of the black ring on top.This will also take away all of the noise the skimmer line was making.LOL

Hey jerrybsal i have been trying to get mine to skim more also mine will only skim about 1/4 of a cup in about 2 days i have tryied to ajust the 3 air line tubes it came with but i cant seem to get it to stay wright? I had it for about a month or so i also get alot of micro bubbles. About that site i cant find where i was when i saw it but i will keep trying to find it.
