Skimmer Cleaning

Is there any way to really clean a skimmer? I took mine off the tank today lots of brown stuff (new tank) and it was a project with hot water and different brushed to get in most of the areas is there a better way HELP.

What brand of skimmer do you have?
All I use is some warm water and paper towels but I have a Euro-reef so that might not work to you.

I'm assuming you mean cleaning the collection cup? Just run it through the dishwater (if you have one)

make sure if you do decide to run anything through the dishwasher that goes into your tank to run the dishwasher empty without soap first...

get a tooth brush! thats what i use. its small and it gets all the tough sh-t off

clean it more often and it wont be as big a job. I empty my cup every other day and wipe it out with a paper towel. maybe try a bottle brush .
I keep hearing the same thing about putting things in the dish washer. sorry I love my fish but not enough to have fish butt on my fine china. :hilarious
