skimmer cleaning

when you people clean out your skimmers, do you take it completely apart and clean all parts? how often should i do it? doesn't that start the break-in process for the skimmer all over again?

i've got a berlin h.o. that must be cleaned about every 5-6 months. i notice that it is not creating the micro bubbles that it is supposed to and when that occurs, i clean it. total disassembly because if you only clean the little part that is causing the problem, you'll be back next week cleaning the part that you missed.
but the break in process is not started all over again. you're not trying to make it sterile, just cleaning to make it functional again.
buy a skimmer that has great skimming action, and that is easily maintained.

I HAVE A ETS 1000 I TAKE THE UPPER SECTION
OFF ABOUT ONCE EACH WEEK. THE SKUM GETS
VERY THICK AND HAS TO BE WASHED OUT,
AFTER PUTTING IT TOGETHER THE UNIT IS UP
AND RUNNING 100% IN ABOUT AN HOUR.

Realistically I clean mine about once a month.
