Skimmer dial in help...please

On my PM bullet 2, it seemed like I had it dialed in pretty nicely. I knew the rough position of the air intake valve, and had marked where the gate valve should be to produce nice skimmate.
But then lately, the old gate valve position is causing the water level to be about 3/4 of the way up the skimmer body and it keeps overflowing. I would think that the same setting would produce the same result, but its not true. Why?
Is it normal with these skimmers that the ideal position of the gate valve is not constant? I have had it for about three months, and the GV position that I marked worked until a week ago.
Nothing else in my tank has really changed in that time

sounds like some salt creep in the air inlet, or maybe something else got blocked.
take the valve out and clean it, also take the pump loose and clean there too.

i dont have a beckett skimmer but i have read that you have to periodically clean the beckett injector itself... things like sand or snail shells get stuck in them...

OK, so I took it apart and cleaned all of it. Tell me, does anyone else find the Bullet 2 to be infuriating to work on? If they just had put an extra 3/4 of an inch between the riser tube and the injector housing, taking it apart, cleaning it and putting it back together would take 30 minutes, not well over an hour....just frustrating. Not to mention that the male to male connector that holds the injector housing on is too long, so if you tighten it really tight, it does not work and lets air in. If you don't tighten it enough, same problem...arrrgghhh. I was ready to sell this thing, then the fourth time I tried tightening everything it went back together.
Am I alone on this?
BTW I love the thing when its working
