you need to make bubbles alot of bubbles. Did you read the little book that came with or did you do what I alway do and read later. You should have a control valve on the pump somewear. It needs to be ajusted. :D

Check to make sure there is not some obstruction somewhere such as in the line attached to the control valve and where it hooks into the skimmer. If it is blocked it won't work.

I had a ton of problems with the Aquarium Systems' Visi-Jet protein skimmer. It would either make so much noise I could not sleep at night, or it would do nothing at all and never create the foam that a P/S should make. On a good day when it did work, it filled my tank with microbubbles and rendered it cloudy. I did a ton of research and found that a large number of experts advised against the use of Aquarium Systems protein skimmers.
I wanted to keep the cost of a new skimmer within reason and ended up purchasing a Berlin Air-Lift 90 for just over $40 (with air pump). It thus far has worked GREAT. It is quiet, effective and even though what it collects makes me want to gag, I am glad it is in the retainer cup and NOT in my tank. Just my thoughts ;)

Hi, just is just a though I mean I have very limited exprerience with this particular skimmer but make sure that there is no way that water can get into the air passage....make sure that the air passage is water tight until it reaches the pump...make sure the valve opening isn't under water....just a thought.....hope it helps....

I just left www.aquarium systems.com and told me all you need to about your skimmer. Go to the site and it will tell to.
